Glickenhaus at The 2021 Baja 1000
Glickenhaus, along with HK Motorcars, returned to Ensenada this week to compete in our third Baja 1000 race.
For us, The Baja 1000 is our proving ground. We put what we learned into the 4 door version of our Glickenhaus Boot and re-engineered our 2 door race Boot. As The Ford Factory Bronco is not returning we're moving up from the class they were in up to Class 1 and hope to finish a bit higher overall in the more grueling 1200 mile Península run. It's fantastic to be working again with Elliott, Darren, Viri, Shai, Erin, and Romain who drove for us at Le Mans. I'm also very happy that my Meg Cameron, The "C" in SCG, and Jesse's Mom will be joining us and am so grateful for all of our Sponsors, fans, technical partners, and employees who have made this dream come true. |

SCG at The 2020 Baja 1000
The Glickenhaus Boot wins the Baja 1000 in Class 2 for a second year in a row, beating the Factory Ford Bronco by over 5 hours.
At Glickenhaus, we race because we love racing, we love an extreme challenge, and we love to constantly push, test, and improve our vehicles. We are racing against ourselves to improve year over year. We are racing against the toughest courses in the world. And we are already making plans to return to the Baja and race again next year. Glickenhaus’ budget to design, engineer, build, test, and race the Glickenhaus Boot was 0.026% of Ford’s marketing budget that same year, and that doesn’t include Ford’s cost to create their road Bronco. Many bottles of tequila would be bet over the next two years over who would win, the Boot or the Bronco. After this year’s race, we will see if anyone is still betting on the Ford. |
“This was my 25th Baja 1000. I have never driven in conditions even close to that in Baja. Only thing I can compare it to was the 2000 Dakar rally when we did the first stages in France in January.” |
SCG at The 2019 Baja 1000
The Glickenhaus Boot wins the Baja 1000 in Class 2 in its first year racing at Ensenada, beating the Factory Ford Bronco by over 270 miles.
Running the Baja 1000 is challenging enough, especially with a new vehicle, but this year was especially challenging. Three days of record rains flooded and washed out many parts of the course. For the second time in 52 years SCORE delayed the start by a day to ensure that every section was passable, that roads were repaired, and that those sections that were not passable were rerouted. Of the 264 vehicles that started the race only 145 actually finished. After our first hour we knew we were substantially faster than the Bronco. We stoped for over an hour, where the Bronco kept racing and gained a lead of 35 miles. After our stop we caught up with the Bronco, passed it, and steadily increased our lead over the Bronco to over 220 miles for the rest of the race. Our goal was to prove the Boot on its first race and finish. Since racing and winning our first Baja 1000, we have made a list of all the lessons learned for next time, and ways to make the Boot even stronger. We have washed off 519 pounds of mud and dirt from the race Boot. We have moved into a facility three times as large as the current facility at Armada in order to build the 2020 Boots, which we are building to be fully US and California homologated. |
